For Insurance Agencies

Riskado lets insurance agencies claim and correct a free directory listing, then choose a flat-fee plan for more presentation or placement if they want one. Pro costs $39 a month or $390 a year. Sponsored placement costs $79 a month at the founding rate, or $790 a year, per category-town page, and every Sponsored placement is labelled Sponsored. Payment buys directory presentation, never reviews, endorsements or promised results.

Riskado is an independent information site and directory of insurance agencies across the US, not an insurer, agency or broker. If you own, run or work in an agency, the prices, terms and next step are all here, so you can decide yourself or forward the page to the person who will.

Listing, claim and paid plan: three different things

Each of these changes something different about how your agency appears, so it helps to keep them apart.

A listing is your agency's public directory record. It holds what visitors see first: the agency name, address, phone number and hours.

A claim is your request to manage or correct that record. It confirms that you control the business information. Claiming is free, and it is not an endorsement, a ranking promise or an insurance credential.

A paid plan buys additional presentation or placement under stated terms. It does not buy reviews, trust, a ranking for insurance quality, customer satisfaction or a set number of inquiries.

What each plan costs and includes

An owner deciding whether this is worth a look usually wants four answers: what is free, what claiming changes, what each paid plan adds, and what payment does not buy.

  • Claimed listing: free. Correct your agency's name, address, phone number and hours, and manage the record.
  • Pro: $39 a month or $390 a year. Pro hides other agencies on your agency's own listing, so a visitor on your page sees your agency alone.
  • Sponsored: $79 a month founding rate, or $790 a year, per category-town page. A page carries at most 2 Sponsored placements, and each one is labelled Sponsored.

There are no contracts, and you can cancel anytime. Reviews and trust come from your own customers and your own work, and no plan changes that.

How Sponsored placement is labelled

A paid plan is a flat advertising fee for directory presentation or placement. It is not payment for a quote, a policy sale, a referral, a commission or a customer outcome. Every Sponsored placement carries the word "Sponsored" next to it wherever it appears, and the label stays visible on mobile.

Disclosures must be clear and prominent, close to the advertising, easy to read and understandable, according to the FTC's Native Advertising Guide (opens in a new tab) (December 22, 2015). The guide gives "Ad," "Advertisement," "Paid Advertisement" and "Sponsored Advertising Content" as examples of understandable language and warns that "Promoted" may be ambiguous. It also says a disclosure should be in the same language as the ad it qualifies, which matters for a bilingual site.

Why the fee is flat

State insurance rules draw lines around compensation and referrals, and those lines differ by state and by activity. A flat advertising fee is a different thing from the arrangements these rules address:

  • In Connecticut, Conn. Gen. Stat. § 38a-702l (opens in a new tab) bars an insurer or producer from paying compensation to a person who must be licensed to sell, solicit or negotiate insurance but is not. It permits payment to people who do not sell, solicit or negotiate insurance, unless another statute is violated.
  • In New York, an unlicensed entity may receive compensation for a referral only where it does not discuss specific policy terms and conditions and the compensation is not based on the person's purchase of insurance, according to New York DFS Opinion 03-03-11 (opens in a new tab) (March 17, 2003).
  • In Massachusetts, Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 175, § 177 (opens in a new tab) prohibits an unlicensed person from acting as an insurance producer for compensation, while allowing referral fees to unlicensed employees of a licensed producer in the circumstances the statute states.

These rules apply to the activity in each state. If your agency has its own compliance questions about advertising, ask your counsel or your state insurance department.

Where a directory fits in getting found

Getting found online is a common problem for agencies. In the 2024 Agency Universe Study (opens in a new tab), conducted for the Big "I" with 1,269 respondents from the US independent property and casualty agency system, agencies named marketing on the internet among their challenges, along with managing multiple carrier interfaces, finding qualified staff and adapting to direct and online buying. More than half, 56%, named social media as a top marketing activity, used mainly to build the agency brand (87%) and attract prospects (79%).

Trust carries through to renewal. Among small commercial customers with the highest trust, 81% said they definitely would renew and 79% said they definitely would recommend their insurer, according to J.D. Power's 2024 U.S. Small Commercial Insurance Study (opens in a new tab) of 2,817 customers at businesses with 50 or fewer employees.

A Riskado listing is one more place where a local shopper can find your name, address, phone number and hours. It works alongside your own website and your Google Business Profile, not in place of them. Complete, accurate business information helps Google match a business to relevant local searches, and businesses cannot pay Google for a better local ranking, according to Google Business Profile Help (opens in a new tab).

Services for agencies

Beyond the directory, Riskado offers five services for insurance agencies. Each is sold separately from directory plans, and buying one does not change how a listing is ranked or labelled.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers for agency owners and staff.

Is my agency already listed?

Search the Riskado agency directory by town or ZIP code. The directory covers insurance agencies across the US, state by state, and a listing shows the agency name, address, phone number and hours.

Does claiming my listing cost anything?

No. Claiming is free, and you can correct your name, address, phone number and hours without buying a plan. A paid plan is a separate choice you can make later, or never.

Will a paid plan bring my agency leads?

A paid plan buys presentation and placement in the directory under stated terms. It is not tied to inquiries, quotes, policies sold or commissions, so no plan promises a number of calls or customers.

Can I cancel a plan?

Yes. There are no contracts, and you can cancel anytime. Pro is billed at $39 a month or $390 a year, and Sponsored at $79 a month founding rate or $790 a year per category-town page.

Does Sponsored placement mean Riskado endorses my agency?

No. A Sponsored placement is paid advertising, labelled "Sponsored" wherever it appears. A listing of any kind is not an endorsement, a rating or a recommendation.
